KELSO BORDERS SELL TO 4 STATES
A successful production sale of Kelso Border Leicesters was held Wednesday 7th October on property at Ardmona, via Tatura. Sheep sold to 4 States.
50 Rams sold to a top of $3,000 averaging $915. All of the 27 Ewes offered averaged $241.
The top priced ram at $3,000 sold to Graeme Monks, Campania, Tasmania which won 1st Prize Shorn Ram at this years Royal Melbourne Show. He boasted a Border Dollar Index of 130. He is a Trait Leader on 5 Traits recorded on Lambplan, topping 3 of these.
The show team of rams averaged $2,107. Rams selling at $2,000 were to Tattykeel Stud, Oberon, NSW, Johno’s Stud, Keith and R & J Willmot, Lucindale, South Australia. Also at $2,000 rams sold to Laurel View Stud, Horsham, Les Sutherland, Koorawtha, NSW and Raywil Stud, Swan Hill who also purchased a second ram at $1,000.
Regular buyers W H Chambers, Rutherglen purchased 1 ram at $1,500 and S Barnes & Co., Nelleona Stud, Hay, NSW purchased for the 64th consecutive year rams at $1,750 and $1,500.
$uperborder Flock Rams topped at $1,000 with 3 selling to Ian Patrick, Numurkah who also purchased 3 at $600. Rob Hayes at Tarcombe Herefords, Ruffy purchased 3 at $1,000 and another 5 averaging $756. Other buyers of flock rams were Lorrup Pastoral through Ellis Nuttall & Co Bendigo purchasing 5 rams and Homell Pty Ltd, Beveridge taking 7 rams.
12 non-$uperborder rams offered failed to sell. They will be offered privately.
Laurel View White Suffolks, Horsham were the volume buyers in the ewe section purchasing 17. Other ewe buyers were Les Sutherland, Allan Oliver and Cliff Mackay.
The Sale was conducted by Tony Pianto of Rodwells and Landmark Auctioneer Kevin Norris.
